Who we are

Our website address is: https://denverperfect10.com.

Commitment to open source

There are many private, for-profit companies that have “free” services to help website owners. While they do not have a monetary cost to the webmaster, they do have a privacy cost to the end user.

This website – and all related platforms – place using open source software as a priority. Open source software makes all of its code available to anyone who chooses to inspect it, and that allows anyone with coding experience to fully understand how the code operates. It also means that data is preserved in-house and not sent to large, for-profit third parties who may collect your data in ways beyond our control.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

We don’t intend to provide the option for visitors to leave comments, and that means we won’t collect that associated information. In the unlikely event we do allow comments, we have proactively outlined our privacy policy regarding comments here.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

We don’t intend to provide the option for visitors to upload media, and that means we won’t collect that associated information. In the unlikely event we do allow media uploads from visitors, we have proactively outlined our privacy policy regarding media here.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

If you choose to utilize our contact form, that information will be sent to us. We may associate metadata like time of submission and other information, and that will be used to better understand the reason for contacting and to identify potential spam. We do not intend to share this information with third parties unless certain specific third parties will help us better address the reason you are contacting us. One particular example might be engaging various agencies within the City and County of Denver to obtain more context around your reason for contacting us.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

We do not anticipate allowing logins to our website from the public, but this is provided proactively should that policy change. If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for however long you (or your browser) choose to maintain that cookie in your browser. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We do collect basic demographic information about the visitors to our website. We do not sell any of that information to anyone, and we do not intend to change that policy. The analytics we perform are to determine who the website serves, how to best organize the website to provide efficient service, and to ensure we provide the best customer service for the people of District 10. Our analytics tool is Matomo, an open source alternative to giving your data to large, for-profit companies who might use your information in ways we cannot control. We also self-host that analytics platform and data, which means no third-party has access to any of the information we collect.

Who we share your data with

We may collect metadata like time of submission and other information, and that will be used to better understand the reason for contacting and to identify potential spam. We do not intend to share this information with third parties unless certain specific third parties will help us better address the reason you are contacting us. One particular example might be engaging various agencies within the City and County of Denver to obtain more context around your reason for contacting us.

We have no relationships with third parties whose express intent is to profit off of your information or metadata, and we have no interest in creating those relationships. Furthermore, we take proactive steps to avoid using third-party, for-profit services that might use your data in ways we cannot control. Any data shared will only be to better serve the constituents of District 10.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

In the unlikely event we choose to allow visitor comments, visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
