Expanded Waste Services Programming
Starting in 2023, the City of Denver’s solid waste services department implemented a fee based on cart size. Fees not only support the administrative costs of the program, but will help divert trash from landfills.
The program also includes the expansion of the city’s compost collection, which will now be provided to all residents on a weekly basis. These changes began in the summer of 2023, and will continue to be implemented on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis.
How It Works
Residents can continue to set out their trash, recycling, and compost on their collection day. Residents will also receive a credit on their invoice until their compost cart is delivered. Once this is delivered, the fee structure is as follows:
$9 per month
- Small 35-gallon trash cart — holds up to 3 kitchen trash bags per week
- Recycling and compost carts (any size)
$13 per month
- Medium 65-gallon trash cart — holds up to 5 kitchen trash bags per week
- Recycling and compost carts (any size)
$21 per month
- Large 95-gallon trash cart — holds up to 8 kitchen trash bags per week
- Recycling and compost carts (any size)
You can request to change the size of your cart on the expanded-service page. If these fees are not feasible for your household, you can apply for a rebate on the trash rebate page.
Troubleshooting
As this new programming is rolled out through the city, there may be a few hiccups. The easiest way to deal with these problems is to call 311 or submit a ticket through the online services hub. Please refrain from submitting multiple times, as this will slow down service times. However, feel free to reach out to the District 10 office if your issue isn’t resolved within two weeks.
